We are very excited and very proud to have received Qualmark's Silver Award for Sustainable Tourism Business!!
So what does that mean?
"A Silver Award is evidence of a sophisticated tourism business that consistently exceeds visitor expectations. Proactive leadership and management ensure that a culture of high performance is evident throughout the entire business. The business will have a real focus on continuously improving their economic, social and environmental performance to ensure the tourism product they deliver is a genuine, constantly improving sustainable experience."
A big thank you to Tourism New Zealand for taking the time to visit us and to get to know more about our alpaca business and our Cornerstone team. It’s good to know that we’re on the right track and we appreciate your feedback and ideas on how we can improve our practices going forward. To receive a Silver Qualmark Award in our first application is testament to our excellent staff and the passion and commiment they pour into our Alpaca Farm.
Thank you for our silver award; we appreciate it!

There were delighted squeals aplenty at Gordonton School yesterday as the junior classes joined a million kids to read the same book, here and in Australia.
Better yet, after reading Alpacas with Maracas projected on the big screen, two VIPs came by the school – real life cuddly alpacas from the nearby Cornerstone Alpaca Stud.
Reading and asking alpaca wrangler Herman creative questions (“do alpacas spit?”) were the order of the day.
Sandie Haddock from Scholastic books was there, and said the aim was to get a million kids reading simultaneously at school, libraries, homes – anwhere.
National Simultaneous Storytime originated in Australia and is in its 19th year. Alpacas with Maracas was written by Matt Cosgrove. Alpacas are South American camelids, similar to, and often confused with llamas.
Llamas, says Herman, are bigger. And yes, alpacas do spit but mostly at each other.
“Generally they are absolutely adorable.”
Number 8 Network’s Iris Riddell, back from Japan, was there to take pics.

Cornerstone Alpaca Stud was thrilled to host Isabellas 13th Birthday Party. Every detail of the day was perfect, from the weather, the cake, the decorations to the beautiful alpaca headbands the friends wore and had specially made by Gerty Brown. The table was set up with traditional Peruvian colours and the Alpaca cake was the perfect focal point.
The birthday girl arrived and was surprised and very happy to see all her friends and how beautifully her mom had decorated the space. Everyone made their way around the table and dug into a feast of chips, chocolate, crispy veggies and cooldrinks. Everyone was very excited to see some alpacas so they grabbed bowls of alpaca pellets and made their way to the trailer waiting outside to take them to the herd of Alpacas. Safety briefing was done and everyone hopped on the trailer which was driven by the owner Dave. As the trailer made its way to the herd, you could see the ears of the alpacas stand up and becoming more and more interested in this new trailer bringing all these friends to feed them. It was the perfect setting, no wind and the tall trees towering over us. Everyone was able to get up close to the Alpacas and fed them from their hands and got gorgeous photos and lots of cuddles.
Everyone made their way back to the shop and decided it would be a great time to try the soap felting using alpaca fibre. The different stations were all set up and ready to start felting. The girls had an artistic sense and found the felting process very easy. They made the most beautiful buff soaps with gorgeous colours and I could see the sense of pride they had in themselves for what they had just created.
After the soap felting a few friends decided they would like to lead the alpacas on halters. The alpacas had colourful pompoms draped around their necks which looked very festive, traditional and made the most beautiful photos. The alpacas had so much excitement throughout the morning that some of them decided they would rather sit down and relax rather that walk up and down 😊 The other friends tried out some garden activities that were set up. Mostly alpaca themed such as Alpcaca tic-tak-toe, Pin the tail on the Alpaca, Can you find the alpacas hidden in the garden? And bean bag toss games. Fun was had by all!
Then is was time to sing Happy Birthday and have some of that delicious birthday cake. We all sang happy birthday, Isabella blew out all her candles and everyone dug into the most amazing Alpaca birthday cake.
We would like to thank you and your family for choosing Cornerstone Alpacas as the place to make these beautiful memories you can treasure forever!
